The Phantom in Thai

Hi for everyone,

I don't speak Thai, so I hope that I didn't post this topic at wrong place on this forum. I was member of old forum and once asked about the Phantom publications in Thai language. Menahwile, we have found more informations about Thai issues, but does anyone could help about this:

Here missing cover scan of issue #5 and also informations. Does anyone can find that and can confirm that #11 was the last issue in this series?

Does anyone know anything more about this series? The Phantom has appeared in at least three issues of at least nine in total.




And who was publisher of this children magazine? That includes shortened and traced Charlton Phantom story.

I can remember you regarding once came here and seeking for some of The Phamtom - Thai language issues, few years ago. Welcome back.

Unbelievable that you are still looking for those missing. Actually, there are not much people who collected all the Phantom - Thai version books, even most of them had ever read it before. TNG published a lot of comics at the time, more than 2 books a month, one of them - Walt Disney series was the most famous than the others which may not easier available over the book stalls. And when Mahasanuk's comic came, I didn't follow or remember those anymore.

However, this is the 3rd avatar of Kamoman web-board, I think. With your message leaving here, there should have some members come & read this and able to help you to fulfill what you want, hopefully. Keep in touch pal, may lucky be with you.

What I found now, is one of Makasanuk magazine with front Flash Gordon cover and the advertised covers' images at the back.
As we can see what were shown there, the sample's covers of those mixed series of #1, #2, #3 and #4 respectively.
You had #3 cover's image already, so now you'll see how the others were.

Of course, the same to me when I saw it 50 years ago and was young. This was illustrated image cover for inside fiction, Fantomas, that appeared in that magazine issue. Veeratham, in Thai reading, was the weekly magazine's name for children at the time, organized by one of the Catholic Foundation in Thailand, for students. This magazine format was brought from Tintin Journal magazine in Belgium, containing the general knowledge, science fictions & news, including continuous Franco-Belgium & American comics. The prosper period of Veeratham was during 1956 - 1972 in Thailand.

The advertisement page of Fantomas, French movie, in Veeratham's page which going to be shown in the theater on Dec. 05, 1965. After the fiction had been translated and printed for readers a few week before.

Still no additional information for your request. It seemed like this comic book was periodically & occasionally issued when the comic market was well responded by readers at the time. The book's title was "Puern-Nong", in Thai reading, mean "Brother's Friend". There was the printer's name & address appeared on the back cover at the bottom, printed in 1970, but no detail of the publisher.

We also have no idea about the comics inside, it said there were 3 comics, first was Maoklee - Walt Disney then the Phantom and the japanese comic the last. Also would it be the real Phantom or not, either Charleston, others or the redraw copy, still not clear. I myself never saw this issue before, so if we found any info, you will know.

But there was once you should know, The Phantom comic strips by Sy Barry, appeared in Sunday issue the Bangkok Post newspaper (English - no translation) in 1965 - 1970, in Thailand. That is the first time I ever saw " The Walking Ghost ".

I need only info. I am not sure at all how categorize this issue on Phantom wiki.

About publications in newspapers, thanks for info, but it's not easy add anything until newspaper archive won't be available.
